Nitrous oxide has been used in pediatric dentistry for generations because it works quickly, levels are adjustable, and recovery is fast. It is not general anesthesia—your child remains awake and responsive.
Before and after
Give light meals as directed, mention congestion or respiratory issues, and follow post-op instructions if treatment was combined with local anesthetic. Kids should feel normal within minutes after oxygen flush at the end.
Building long-term confidence
Sedation is a tool, not the whole strategy. Positive visits, praise for cooperation, and consistent recall help many children outgrow severe fear as they mature.
